united Earth space probe “Athena” is go for launch
orbit unclear; no known destination; no coordinates programmed
navigation system barely functioning, environments inhospitable
communication equipment functions intermittently, sensors read hostility

she has no choice but to travel on, thrusters flaring when needed
unfamiliar territory, undiscovered country, unknown objects ahead
she is seeking more of he own kind, life cognizant of itself
without knowing if it exists, or if it will respond, or if it will recognize her for who she is
but she goes on seeking, on, and on, and on, and on, and on
and on
and on
and on
